In a decisive opening game of the 2027 season, the New York Jets defeated the Washington Commanders 24-7, showcasing their dominance on both sides of the ball. With both teams looking to make a statement early in the season, the Jets proved they are a force to be reckoned with as they set the tone for their campaign. LaNorris Sellers led the Jets’ offensive charge, throwing for 215 yards and two touchdowns, effectively spreading the ball around and keeping the Commanders’ defense on their heels. His performance was complemented by a steady ground game, ensuring that the Jets maintained a balanced attack throughout the contest. In contrast, the Commanders struggled to find their rhythm, with Jacory Croskey-Merritt managing just 22 rushing yards. Defensively, the Jets stifled the Commanders’ offense, forcing them into tough situations and limiting their scoring opportunities. The game’s turning point came in the second quarter when Andre Cisco intercepted a pass, halting a potential scoring drive and allowing the Jets to extend their lead. With the Jets’ defense holding strong and making key plays, Washington was unable to mount any significant comeback efforts.
