The San Francisco 49ers outlasted the Arizona Cardinals 60-46 on Sunday in a Week 3 shootout that never bothered pretending to be anything else. Both offenses traded haymakers from the opening drive, and the scoreboard operator earned his check. In the end, San Francisco simply had the ball-carrier neither defense could account for. The win moves the 49ers forward in an NFC West race that already looks like it will be settled by points, not stops. Christian McCaffrey was the story, and it wasn't particularly close. The San Francisco back piled up 430 rushing yards, controlling the tempo and turning would-be stalled possessions into scoring drives. Arizona's Carson Beck did everything he could to keep pace, throwing for 249 yards and four touchdowns while spreading the ball around. Michael Wilson led all receivers with 98 yards, giving Beck a reliable target on the outside as the Cardinals kept swinging. Defensively, this was a day of survival rather than dominance. Jack Gibbens was the one true difference-maker on that side of the ball, picking off two passes to hand Arizona short fields it desperately needed. San Francisco countered with Renardo Green's team-high four tackles and a sack from Mykel Williams, modest numbers that nonetheless came in critical spots. The turning point was simple: even with Gibbens' two takeaways, the Cardinals had no answer for McCaffrey's ground assault, and every Arizona response was met with another long, clock-draining 49ers drive.
