The Cincinnati Bengals opened the 2026 season in style, beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 35-21 at Paycor Stadium. Week 1 offered an early measuring stick for two teams with postseason expectations, and Cincinnati left no doubt about which side was sharper out of the gate. The Bengals' passing game set the tone from the opening drive and never let Tampa Bay settle in. Joe Burrow was the story, carving up the Buccaneers secondary for 291 yards and five touchdown passes in a near-flawless afternoon. Ja'Marr Chase was his favorite target, piling up 130 receiving yards and consistently winning on the outside. Tampa Bay had its own bright spot in Bucky Irving, who churned out 120 rushing yards and kept the visitors within striking distance for stretches. But the Buccaneers simply could not match Cincinnati's efficiency in the red zone. Defensively, Cincinnati did just enough to keep the pressure on, with Boye Mafe recording the game's lone sack and disrupting the pocket at key moments. Tampa Bay's Zyon McCollum provided the Bucs' biggest defensive play with an interception, while Alex Anzalone led all tacklers with three stops. The turning point came as Burrow kept finding the end zone through the air, turning a competitive game into a two-score cushion the Buccaneers never erased. Irving's ground production was strong, but 21 points was never going to be enough against a quarterback throwing five touchdowns.
