In a commanding performance to kick off the 2026 season, the San Francisco 49ers topped the Los Angeles Rams with a final score of 38-14. The victory sets a strong tone for the 49ers as they look to establish themselves among the NFC's elite this year. Jared Goff was the standout for San Francisco, throwing for an impressive 338 yards and five touchdowns, showcasing his precision and ability to exploit the Rams' secondary. Jaxon Smith-Njigba was a reliable target, racking up 105 receiving yards and contributing to the offensive onslaught. Meanwhile, the Rams struggled to mount a response, with Cam Skattebo leading their rushing attack but only managing 53 yards on the ground. Defensively, the 49ers were relentless, with Jalen Ramsey leading the way with nine tackles. The turning point came when Marcus Williams intercepted a pass, halting a Rams drive and allowing the 49ers to extend their lead further. Dorance Armstrong did his best for Los Angeles with two sacks, but ultimately, the 49ers' defensive pressure and timely plays were too much to overcome.
