In a commanding performance, the Minnesota Vikings cruised to a decisive 49-14 victory over the Detroit Lions in Week 8 of the 2026 season. This win solidifies the Vikings’ position in the playoff race, showcasing their offensive firepower and defensive prowess against a division rival. Leading the charge for Minnesota was quarterback Baker Mayfield, who threw for an impressive 467 yards and six touchdowns, demonstrating his ability to exploit the Lions’ secondary. Darius Slayton was his favorite target, racking up 133 receiving yards, while the Vikings’ ground attack complemented the aerial assault effectively. Despite the loss, D'Andre Swift shined for Detroit with 111 rushing yards, but it wasn’t enough to keep pace with the explosive Vikings offense. Minnesota’s defense played a crucial role in the outcome, with standout performances by Kayvon Thibodeaux, who recorded three sacks, pressuring the Lions’ offense throughout the game. The turning point came in the second quarter when Mayfield connected with Slayton for a long touchdown, extending the lead to 28-7 and effectively putting the game out of reach. The Vikings’ ability to stifle the Lions' drives, coupled with their relentless offensive execution, secured a dominant victory.
