In a thrilling Week 17 matchup, the Jacksonville Jaguars outlasted the Washington Commanders with a final score of 31-24, clinching a crucial victory as the regular season nears its conclusion. This win solidifies the Jaguars' playoff aspirations, while the Commanders face uncertainty in their postseason hopes. Washington's Jason Campbell had a standout performance, throwing for 235 yards and three touchdowns, showcasing his ability to lead the offense effectively. Clinton Portis also made an impact on the ground, rushing for 110 yards, providing a balanced attack that kept the Commanders competitive throughout the game. However, the Jaguars' defense managed to limit big plays when it mattered most. Defensively, the Jaguars were led by Reginald Hayward, who recorded a crucial sack, disrupting Campbell's rhythm at key moments. The turning point came late in the fourth quarter, when the Jaguars' defense held strong on a pivotal possession, forcing a turnover on downs and allowing Jacksonville to maintain their lead. Troy Vincent's 12 tackles for the Commanders demonstrated their effort, but it wasn't enough to overcome Jacksonville's late-game resilience.
