In an explosive season opener for the 2026 campaign, the Los Angeles Chargers narrowly defeated the Arizona Cardinals with a final score of 66-57. Both teams came out swinging, but it was the Chargers who ultimately emerged victorious in a high-scoring affair that set the tone for the season ahead. Justin Herbert was nothing short of spectacular, throwing for 385 yards and five touchdowns, showcasing his elite arm talent and decision-making throughout the game. Keaton Mitchell added a dynamic presence on the ground with 135 rushing yards, while Quentin Johnston stood out in the receiving corps, racking up 113 yards and providing crucial big plays when the Chargers needed them most. Defensively, the Chargers were able to apply pressure, with Cam Hart recording a key sack that disrupted the Cardinals' rhythm at a pivotal moment. Arizona’s defense struggled to contain the explosive Chargers offense, while Max Melton’s two interceptions provided a glimpse of hope, but ultimately they couldn't swing the momentum in favor of the Cardinals. The game turned on Herbert’s ability to exploit defensive gaps, allowing Los Angeles to build an insurmountable lead as the clock wound down.
