In a pivotal Week 9 matchup, the Houston Texans secured a 31-22 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, solidifying their position in the playoff race. Both teams entered the game with high stakes, but it was the Texans who emerged victorious, showcasing their offensive firepower and defensive resilience. C.J. Stroud led the Texans’ offense with precision, tossing two touchdown passes while managing the game effectively. On the other side, Justin Herbert put up impressive numbers with 373 passing yards, but it was his inability to find the end zone often enough that ultimately hurt the Chargers. Keaton Mitchell also made a strong contribution on the ground, rushing for 99 yards, while Ladd McConkey highlighted the Chargers' receiving corps with 116 yards through the air. Defensively, the Texans were formidable, with Kamari Lassiter making a game-high 13 tackles to keep the Chargers' ground game in check. A crucial turning point came when Calen Bullock intercepted a pass, halting a potential Chargers scoring drive and shifting momentum back to Houston. Kayden McDonald added to the defensive effort with a sack, further pressuring Herbert and limiting the Chargers' offensive effectiveness in critical moments.
