In a decisive Week 1 matchup of the 2026 season, the San Francisco 49ers topped the Los Angeles Rams 21-6, establishing an early grip on the NFC West. The 49ers showcased their strength on both sides of the ball, signaling their intent to return to the playoffs this season. Brock Purdy led the 49ers' offense, throwing for 186 yards, while Christian McCaffrey proved to be a dual-threat, racking up 57 rushing yards and an impressive 95 receiving yards. Matthew Stafford managed to find the end zone for the Rams but struggled to make a significant impact, finishing with only one touchdown pass. Defensively, the 49ers were relentless, highlighted by Deommodore Lenoir's two interceptions that stifled any momentum the Rams attempted to build. The game's turning point came in the second quarter when Lenoir picked off Stafford, shifting the momentum firmly in favor of San Francisco and paving the way for their offensive success. The Rams' inability to capitalize on their opportunities ultimately sealed their fate in this contest.
