In a thrilling Week 1 matchup, the Los Angeles Rams narrowly defeated the San Francisco 49ers with a final score of 31-25, kicking off the 2026 season with a significant victory. Both teams came into the game looking to establish early momentum, but it was the Rams who ultimately secured the win on their home turf. Matthew Stafford led the charge for Los Angeles, throwing three touchdown passes and showcasing his veteran poise. Kyren Williams added a strong ground game, rushing for 105 yards, while Puka Nacua emerged as a reliable target, logging 92 receiving yards. Despite Brock Purdy's solid performance with 223 passing yards for the 49ers, the Rams' offensive explosiveness proved too much to handle. Defensively, the Rams made key plays that shifted the momentum in their favor. Trent McDuffie anchored the defense with three total tackles, while Byron Young contributed with a crucial sack. Kamren Kinchens' interception late in the game sealed the victory, as the Rams' defense stepped up when it mattered most, thwarting the 49ers' attempts to mount a comeback.
