In a tightly contested matchup to kick off the 2026 season, the New Orleans Saints defeated the Detroit Lions 20-15. With both teams eager to set the tone for the year, the stakes were high, and the Saints ultimately came out on top, showcasing their offensive firepower. Tyler Shough led the Saints with a stellar performance, throwing for 350 yards and two touchdowns, establishing himself as a key playmaker. His favorite target, Jordyn Tyson, made the most of his opportunities, racking up 124 receiving yards, which were crucial in keeping the Saints’ offense on track. Meanwhile, the Lions struggled to find their rhythm on the ground, with Jahmyr Gibbs managing only 29 rushing yards, leaving the team reliant on their passing game. Defensively, the Lions put up a fight, with D.J. Reed leading the way with nine total tackles and D.J. Wonnum contributing 1.5 sacks. However, the Saints' ability to maintain offensive momentum proved decisive, particularly in the second half when Shough connected with Tyson for a pivotal touchdown that ultimately sealed the victory. The Lions’ defense made some key plays, but they couldn't overcome the Saints’ offensive surge when it mattered most.
