In a closely contested season opener, the Green Bay Packers narrowly defeated the Minnesota Vikings 20-17, setting the tone for what promises to be an intense 2026 campaign. Both teams fought hard, but it was the Packers who ultimately came out on top, showcasing their resilience in a game that had playoff implications right from the start. The Packers’ offense was led by quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who threw for two touchdowns, and running back D'Andre Swift, who racked up an impressive 115 rushing yards. Mendoza's ability to find the end zone proved pivotal, while Swift's ground game consistently moved the chains and kept the Vikings' defense on their heels. For Minnesota, Drew Allar put up solid numbers with 217 passing yards, but it wasn't enough to secure a victory. Defensively, the Packers made crucial plays that influenced the outcome, highlighted by an interception from Riley Moss that halted a promising drive from the Vikings. Rueben Bain Jr. added pressure with a sack, ensuring Allar had to work hard for every yard. The game’s turning point came late in the fourth quarter when the Packers' defense held strong, allowing them to maintain their narrow lead and ultimately secure the win.
