In a thrilling matchup in Week 2 of the 2026 season, the San Francisco 49ers topped the Miami Dolphins with a final score of 42-25. The 49ers showcased their offensive prowess, looking to build momentum early in the season with aspirations of a deep playoff run. San Francisco's Matthew Stafford was the star of the day, throwing for four touchdowns and leading his team to a commanding victory. Meanwhile, Jalen Milroe of Miami put up impressive numbers as well, passing for 301 yards, but it wasn't enough to overcome the relentless 49ers offense. Justice Hill added a solid ground game with 97 rushing yards for the Dolphins, but it was Jerry Rice's standout performance with 163 receiving yards that truly highlighted San Francisco's aerial attack. Defensively, the 49ers made crucial plays that shifted the momentum in their favor, with Harrison Smith recording a key interception that halted a Dolphins drive. The turning point came in the second quarter when San Francisco's defense stifled a red-zone opportunity for Miami, allowing the 49ers to maintain their lead and ultimately control the game. Despite a strong individual effort from Jason Taylor, who tallied three sacks for Miami, the Dolphins couldn't overcome the combined offensive firepower and defensive resilience of the 49ers.
