In a nail-biter that showcased the competitive spirit of the AFC South, the Houston Texans narrowly defeated the Indianapolis Colts 20-19 in Week 5 of the 2028 season. With both teams vying for early positioning in the playoff hunt, this matchup was critical for maintaining momentum as the season progresses. On the offensive side, Texans running back Velus Jones Jr. led the charge with 79 rushing yards, providing a solid ground game that complemented their passing attack. Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. showcased his arm strength, throwing for 221 yards, while Tyler Warren was a standout receiver, racking up 98 yards and keeping drives alive. Their efforts kept the Colts competitive, but ultimately fell just short. Defensively, Azeez Al-Shaair made a significant impact for Houston, recording 1.5 sacks that disrupted Indianapolis' offensive rhythm. The game’s turning point came late in the fourth quarter when Sauce Gardner picked off Richardson for his second interception of the game, shifting momentum back to the Texans and allowing them to secure the victory. Mekhi Blackmon's eight tackles for the Colts highlighted their defensive efforts, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Texans’ late-game resilience.
