In a thrilling Week 17 showdown, the Jacksonville Jaguars narrowly defeated the Washington Commanders with a final score of 44-38, solidifying their playoff positioning as the season winds down. Both teams fought hard, but it was the Jaguars who emerged victorious in this high-scoring affair. Leading the charge for Jacksonville was quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who delivered a standout performance with 475 passing yards and five touchdown passes. Parker Washington was his favorite target, racking up an impressive 219 receiving yards, showcasing a remarkable connection that proved pivotal in securing the win. On the ground, Jacory Croskey-Merritt of the Commanders put up a commendable 150 rushing yards, but it wasn't enough to outpace the Jaguars’ explosive offense. The defensive effort from Jacksonville, particularly Jourdan Lewis with nine total tackles and a critical sack from Arik Armstead, played a significant role in the outcome. The turning point came late in the fourth quarter when the Jaguars' defense forced a crucial turnover, allowing Lawrence to extend the lead and ultimately seal the win. This clutch defensive stand underscored Jacksonville's resilience and ability to perform under pressure.
