In a hard-fought battle in Week 5 of the 2026 season, the Washington Commanders held off the New York Giants with a final score of 14-6. This victory was crucial for Washington as they look to solidify their position in the playoff race, while the Giants faced another setback in their quest for consistency. Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels shone brightly, throwing for two touchdowns and leading his team to victory. Meanwhile, the Giants' Jaxson Dart put up solid numbers with 208 passing yards, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Commanders’ defense. On the ground, Cam Skattebo led the Giants with 91 rushing yards, providing a spark but failing to find the end zone. Defensively, both teams made their mark, but it was Washington's Jer'Zhan Newton who stood out, recording a crucial sack that helped stall New York's momentum. The game's turning point came in the second quarter when Daniels connected with his receivers for two quick touchdowns, giving the Commanders a lead they would not relinquish. Despite a strong defensive effort from the Giants, highlighted by Tremaine Edmunds’ seven tackles and an interception from Greg Newsome II, they could not overcome the deficit.
