In a thrilling opening week of the 2026 season, the Cincinnati Bengals narrowly defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a final score of 49 to 42. Both teams showcased their offensive firepower, but the Bengals managed to hold off the Buccaneers in a game that was critical for establishing momentum early in the season. Cincinnati's Joe Burrow led the charge with an impressive five touchdown passes, while Chase Brown's dynamic running game added 122 rushing yards, keeping the Buccaneers' defense on its heels. Baker Mayfield also had a standout performance for Tampa Bay, throwing for 385 yards and keeping his team competitive throughout the contest. Tyreek Hill contributed significantly to the Bengals' success with 107 receiving yards, making key catches when it mattered most. Defensively, the Bengals were able to apply pressure, highlighted by Dexter Lawrence II's sack, which disrupted the Buccaneers' rhythm. The turning point came late in the fourth quarter when Burrow connected with Hill for a touchdown that shifted the momentum firmly in Cincinnati's favor. Despite Alex Anzalone's strong defensive effort for Tampa Bay, including an interception and six total tackles, it wasn't enough to overcome the Bengals' explosive offense.
