In a thrilling Week 16 matchup, the Washington Commanders narrowly defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 27-24, keeping their playoff hopes alive. With both teams vying for a crucial win, the stakes were high as each squad sought to solidify its standing heading into the final stretch of the season. Baker Mayfield put on a show for the Buccaneers, throwing for 299 yards and two touchdowns, showcasing his ability to move the ball effectively. However, it was Jacory Croskey-Merritt and Terry McLaurin who fueled the Commanders’ offense, with Croskey-Merritt rushing for 92 yards and McLaurin hauling in 129 receiving yards, including a critical touchdown that kept Washington in the game. Defensively, Daron Payne was a force for the Commanders, recording two sacks and applying constant pressure on Mayfield. The game’s turning point came late in the fourth quarter when Payne’s second sack led to a key turnover, allowing Washington to regain momentum and secure the victory. Tampa Bay's Antoine Winfield Jr. led the defensive effort with eight total tackles, but it wasn't enough to stop the Commanders from clinching a vital win.
