In a strong start to the 2026 season, the New Orleans Saints topped the Detroit Lions with a final score of 35-21. The game was crucial for both teams as they aimed to set the tone for the season ahead, but the Saints showcased their prowess on both sides of the ball. Tyler Shough led the Saints with an impressive performance, throwing for three touchdowns and keeping the Lions’ defense on their toes. Meanwhile, Travis Etienne Jr. was a force in the backfield, racking up 137 rushing yards and maintaining a consistent offensive rhythm. Jared Goff put up solid numbers for the Lions with 259 passing yards, but it wasn't enough to shift the momentum in their favor. Defensively, the Saints made key plays that shifted the game's dynamics. Chase Young registered a sack, applying pressure on Goff throughout the contest, while Kaden Elliss secured an interception that halted a potential Lions comeback. The turning point came in the third quarter, when the Saints' defense stifled a drive that could have narrowed the gap, allowing New Orleans to maintain control and ultimately secure the victory.
