The New Orleans Saints opened their 2026 season with a commanding 56-28 victory over the Detroit Lions. This week one matchup showcased the Saints' offensive prowess and set a high standard for the season ahead as they look to build momentum early on. Jared Goff led the Lions offensively, throwing for 193 yards and a touchdown, while Jahmyr Gibbs added a solid ground game with 101 rushing yards. However, it was Jameson Williams who stole the show, racking up an impressive 214 receiving yards, keeping the Lions competitive despite the final score. The Saints' offense, on the other hand, found the end zone consistently, demonstrating their explosive capabilities. Defensively, Alontae Taylor was a standout for the Saints, leading the team with six total tackles and snagging an interception, which contributed significantly to the outcome. Walter Nolen III also made his mark with a sack, applying pressure that disrupted the Lions' offensive rhythm. The game's turning point came when Taylor's interception shifted momentum back to the Saints, allowing them to pull away and secure their dominant win.
