In an exciting season opener, the Washington Commanders topped the Philadelphia Eagles 27-21, kicking off the 2026 campaign with a thrilling victory. Both teams sought to establish their dominance early in the season, but it was Washington that came out on top in this closely contested matchup. Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels showcased his skills with an efficient performance, throwing for 199 yards, while Chigoziem Okonkwo led the receiving corps with 60 yards. On the other side, Jalen Hurts found the end zone once but fell short in the passing yardage department, contributing to the Eagles' struggles to keep pace with Washington's offense. Defensively, the Commanders made crucial plays to secure their victory, with Daron Payne leading the charge with two sacks and Sonny Styles grabbing an interception that shifted momentum. The turning point came late in the fourth quarter when Styles' pick halted a potential game-tying drive for the Eagles, allowing Washington to maintain their lead and ultimately seal the win.
