In a thrilling season opener, the Chicago Bears narrowly defeated the Carolina Panthers 24-20, setting the tone for what promises to be an exciting 2026 season. Both teams showcased their potential, but it was the Bears who managed to hold off a late surge from the Panthers to secure the victory. Offensively, Bryce Young of the Panthers had an impressive outing, throwing for 221 yards and two touchdowns, showcasing his ability to command the field. However, it was Kyle Monangai of the Bears who led the ground game with 78 rushing yards, while Rome Odunze made crucial contributions through the air, racking up 76 receiving yards. Their performances were key in maintaining the Bears' offensive momentum throughout the game. On the defensive side, Coby Bryant stood out for Chicago with a game-high eight tackles, consistently thwarting Carolina's attempts to gain ground. The turning point came late in the fourth quarter when the Bears' defense stiffened, forcing a critical turnover that allowed them to maintain their slim lead. Despite Jaelan Phillips' strong performance for the Panthers with 1.5 sacks, it was the Bears' ability to make key stops that ultimately sealed the game.
