In a thrilling Wildcard Round matchup, the Minnesota Vikings held off the Detroit Lions with a final score of 24-21, securing their spot in the next round of the playoffs. Both teams fought fiercely, but it was the Vikings who ultimately held off the Lions to advance in the 2026 season. Leading the charge for Minnesota was quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who threw for an impressive 302 yards and three touchdowns, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure. The Vikings' offensive effort was complemented by Justin Jefferson, who racked up 118 receiving yards, proving to be a reliable target throughout the game. Despite a strong rushing performance from Detroit's Jahmyr Gibbs, who amassed 115 yards on the ground, the Vikings’ passing game was too much to handle. Defensively, the Lions put forth a commendable effort, highlighted by Aidan Hutchinson's four sacks and Marte Mapu's four total tackles. However, the turning point came late in the fourth quarter when McCarthy connected with Jefferson for a touchdown, giving Minnesota the lead for good. Ultimately, it was the Vikings’ ability to make critical plays when it mattered that secured their victory over the Lions.
