The Dallas Cowboys held off the Washington Commanders 27-20 on Sunday, closing out a divisional test that stayed within one score into the closing minutes. It was a Week 2 meeting between two teams still sorting out their identities early in the season, and Dallas found just enough answers to stay in front. The seven-point margin belied how tight the afternoon felt from the opening drive on. For the Commanders, it's a missed opportunity in a building they'd circled. Joe Milton was the story through the air, piling up 267 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns while keeping the chains moving in the game's biggest moments. Garrett Wilson was the primary beneficiary, hauling in 110 receiving yards and consistently winning on the perimeter to flip field position. On the ground, Jacory Croskey-Merritt led all rushers with 60 yards, providing the between-the-tackles work that kept play-action honest. It wasn't an overwhelming offensive night from either side, but the efficiency in the passing game proved to be the difference. Defensively, Trey Amos was everywhere, leading all tacklers with nine stops and repeatedly cleaning up in space. Rashan Gary supplied the pressure, finishing with 1.5 sacks and forcing the pocket to collapse at exactly the wrong times. With neither offense reaching 30 points, those disruptive plays loomed large in a game decided by a single possession. In the end, Dallas made one more stop than Washington could answer, and that was the margin.
