In a dominating performance, the Kansas City Chiefs topped the Denver Broncos 40-6 in Week 1 of the 2026 season. With this victory, the Chiefs made a strong statement, showcasing their offensive firepower and solidifying their status as a contender early in the season. Patrick Mahomes was the star of the show, throwing for 287 yards and two touchdowns, effectively controlling the game from the pocket. Kenneth Walker added a powerful ground game, rushing for 116 yards, while Jaylen Waddle led the receiving corps for Denver with 124 yards, though it was not enough to spark a comeback. Defensively, the Chiefs were relentless, with R Mason Thomas recording two sacks and Alohi Gilman snagging an interception, further stifling any hope the Broncos had of mounting a significant offense. The turning point came in the second quarter when Mahomes connected on a deep touchdown pass, shifting the momentum and allowing Kansas City to pull away decisively.
